The Best Worst Villains

1. Freddy Krueger is a fictional character in the horror film series A Nightmare on Elm Street (in Brazil, A Hora do Pesadelo). Freddy is a child killer in Ohio. After being burned by his parents, he made a deal with supernatural beings and he started to attack teenagers in their nightmares, killing them in the real world.  He has the power to control people's nightmares and kill them during their sleep, so he has the nicknames of "Lord of Nightmares" and "Lord of Dreams".  The only way to defeat Freddy is grab him in the dreams and bring him to the waking world. The series has six films and one with a crossover with Jason Voorhees, from Friday the 13th series.

2. Hannibal Lecter is a character in a series of horror novels written by Thomas Harris and in the films adapted from the novels. Hannibal was introduced to the world in 1981, in the thriller novel Red Dragon as a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. The novel and its sequel, The Silence of the Lambs (1988), have other killers also as villains in the stories. In the third novel, Hannibal (1999), Lecter becomes the main character. His role as protagonist and anti-hero occurs in the fourth novel, Hannibal Rising (2006), which explores his childhood and development into a serial killer.

3. Joker is a psychotic with the appearance similar to a clown (green hair, white skin and red mouth, always smiling), who always challenges Batman, causing major damages in his life, for example, murdering his parents, according to some versions. His trademark and most dangerous weapon is the laughing gas, better known as "Joker Venom", which forces the victim to laugh hysterically and uncontrollably and ultimately provokes a fatal collapse.

4. Lord Voldemort is the archenemy of Harry Potter, who according to a prophecy has "the power to destroy the Dark Lord". Almost no witch or wizard dares to speak his name; instead referring to him as "You-Know-Who", "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" or "the Dark Lord". Voldemort divided his soul into seven parts, the Horcruxes, and the only way to kill him is by destroying them.

5. Sheldon James Plankton, or just Plankton is a character from SpongeBob SquarePants. Plankton is a small plankton and he is rather aggressive and has two antennae and one eye. He has a computer wife named Karen, who is actually a "W.I.F.E." (Wired Integrated Female Electroencephalograph). Karen apparently has a mind of her own, to the point of making fun of her husband. Plankton has spent a long period of time trying to destroy the Krusty Krab, a franchise owned and operated by Mr. Krabs. Plankton has a large family, containing more than 10,000 members of different forms of plankton, most of them are hillbillies, simple people from the countryside.

Our TOP THREE :)

We’ve decided to share our opinions and created our lists of Top Three. Take a look!

1. The Three Box Office Hits of 2011 (so far)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2
Box Office: US$ 1,325,136,868
We think this film had the best effects we’ve ever watched! We loved the end of the saga, and the acting was amazing. The money spent wasn't exaggerated; it was necessary for the quality of the film. In our opinion, different from other authors, J.K Rowling could translate the book into film scenes.
Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon
Box Office: US$ 1,118,514,689
Congratulations to the graphic production of the film. The movie is not so good but the effects are fantastic. What do you think?

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Box Office: US$ 1,039,511,325
The film is not as good as the previous ones, but Johnny Depp is the best actor! We can’t forget Penélope Cruz, who's amazing. Everybody should watch it because it is really funny.

2. The Three Funniest Films Ever!

White Chicks
It’s a 2004 American film directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans. It’s about two brothers whose names are Marcus and Kevin Copeland. They are FBI detectives. They’re not so good at the work they received as undercover cops.

Shrek 2
The film is directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury and Conrad Vernon and written by William Steig and Andrew Adamson. There are many famous actors dubbing the characters: Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, Julie Andrews as the Queen and Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots.
In this sequel, Princess Fiona’s parents invite Shrek and her to have dinner to celebrate their marriage. If only they knew that the newlyweds were both ogres… Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots are so fun! They’re meant to be together!

Bruce Almighty
Directed by Tom Shadyac and starred by Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman, this 2003 American comedy film is about a guy who complains that God isn't doing his job correctly and is then offered the chance to try being God for one week. This is one of the funniest films that we’ve ever seen!

3. The Three Most Touching Film Songs

I Will Always Love You
This song was originally recorded by American singer Dolly Parton in 1974, but it was in the voice of Whitney Houston (as part of the soundtrack of the film The Bodyguard), that the song became a huge success. This song was No. 1 on the charts in the U.S. and the UK for 14 consecutive weeks. At the time, an American was sued by his neighbor to hear for 24 consecutive hours this song at maximum volume, which was considered a "psychological torture".

(I've Had) The Time of My Life
The soundtrack of Dirty Dancing was one of the most striking of the 80s and their main song is award-winning. It should be mentioned that the song "The Time (Dirty Bit)" from the Black Eyed Peas contains samples of this music. Also, in 2011 it was confirmed that there will be a remake to be directed by Kenny Ortega, the same director of High School Musical. Listen to this song that symbolizes passion!!!

My Heart Will Go On
Titanic tells the story of the crash of the ocean liner RMS Titanic in 1912, a tragedy from which few people survived. Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet play the lead roles. It was directed by James Cameron. The main song in the soundtrack is sung by Celine Dion.

4. The Three Worst Films Ever!

Legally Blondes

Two young and blond cousins of Elle Woods move from England to California. They think that with their pink outfits, their puppies and their social skills they will be integrated with them immediately and feel at home. It’s silly and stupid at the same time.

The Grudge 3
A young Japanese woman knows a way to end the curse. She travels to a haunted Chicago apartment where a family struggles to survive the attacks of ghosts. The film raises expectations that are not fulfilled.

Hostel
Two American students decide to travel around Europe to have fun. During the trip, they meet Oli, an Icelander who follows them. They decide to go to a particular hostel in a unknown city in Slovakia that is described like a nirvana. There, they meet two beautiful girls. Excited with the new experiences, they discover that nothing in the city is as good as they think. This film encourages violence.

Oops...

Imagine the best film that you’ve waited for the whole year, the champion of box office in the world. You buy the tickets a month before the movie premiere and invite your friends to watch the movie with you. The day arrives. The cinema is crowded. Before the movie starts, you buy the biggest popcorn and a super soda and look forward to the beginning. The scenes start, everybody is frozen looking at the screen. Suddenly, you see what? An unexpected mistake! How could that happen?
These types of mistakes are called “movie bloopers”, and they are more common than you imagine.

So, as you could see by the images and videos above, even with all the money and hard work that Hollywood puts on its films, mistakes happen all the time. Have you ever paid attention to any of these mistakes? What about other movie bloopers? If you have, please leave us a comment describing it.  If you haven't, I'm sure it can be fun to look for it on the next film you watch and tell us what you found.

We hope you enjoyed reading this. What do you think the best mistake was? Share your opinion!

From Pages to the Big Screen

Movie adaptations from literature are more popular now than ever. Here are some of our ideas about four of them. We’d like to read yours too, so, don’t forget to share your opinion.

Twilight: A Quick Review

Lately, we have witnessed a vampire mania invading the media in a way never seen before. The Twilight Saga brought down the traditional "image" of the bad vampire. But why and how have vampires become so popular?
It seems that teenagers have become addicted to vampires suddenly. However, this might be explained by the fact that the movie reports not only a beautiful story of love but also a slight part of sexual content and violence in order to spice up the scenes. As a result of this combination, what we have seen was an astonishing success, dragging millions and millions of viewers to the movies.
Although the book doesn't have the power to cause such an impact as the film, it can deeply touch the reader’s heart once it’s richer in details about the characters’ personality. And it can also stimulate the good habit of reading, which, in this case, works pretty well because these books are attached to teens’ interests.
There’s nothing like arriving home, sitting down and opening a book or watching a DVD to unwind from the pressure of school/work. Maybe being out of reality and living an unusual story of love is the dream of 9 out of 10 teens. It’s true that Stephenie Meyer screwed up the classic vampire tales, but who cares? What really matters is the true love between a young couple. And we wonder: Is there something more beautiful than that? We don’t think so.

Harry Potter – The Most Famous Wizard Of The World

The series is the highest grossing film series of all time, with $7.6 billion in worldwide receipts. The series consists of 8 movies, all of which are in the top 40 highest-grossing films of all time. For the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and the sixth, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, only some scenes were available in 3D, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows films are the first ones in the Harry Potter series to be released in cinemas in complete 3D versions.
The story is about a young wizard that discovers his powers when he’s 11 years old. He goes to a special school of magic, called Hogwarts, where he makes friends, gets in trouble and finds out that he is famous because of a scar that he got, when he survived a battle against the enemy, an evil wizard that murdered his parents and now wants to kill him.
Practically all Harry Potter movies were nominated for the Academy Awards, and fans are waiting for a lot of nominations for the next ceremony. According to the website Rotten Tomatoes, where fans and professional reviewers can post their own reviews, the last movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, has scored about 96% of points in the website.
The critics always complained about the adaptations, which were never truly faithful to the books written by J. K. Rowling. Harry Potter is a very good adaptation, but like all the others, there are some problems; mostly some parts of the books that fans loved but never appeared on the big screen. The movie plots are straight to the point, which gave the other characters a short time to be developed.
The series is so successful because it is a universal story about family, friendship, teenager's insecurities and personal growth.

The Boom of Superhero Adaptations

After X-Men (2000), the movie industry started to invest huge amounts of money in superhero comics adaptations. The last years have seen a large improvement, both in technology and in technical quality. Unfortunately, it isn’t always accompanied by good scripts. Some recent movies were quite disappointing for fans and the general public, being called the worst adaptations ever made. On the other hand, at least, now they are trying. Some “pre-X-Men” comics adaptations were so ridiculous that they could hardly be called “movies”. Most of them weren’t more than a waste of money, both from the producers and the public. We can cite, for instance, Supergirl (1984), Punisher (1989), Steel (1997), almost any movie about Batman and Superman 3 and 4. The new wave of movies has its own sins (by the way, we can mention Sin City as one of them), but the recent disasters can’t be blamed on lack of investment. Maybe lack of creativity? Thanks God, we have tons of great movies to save us!
What makes a great adaptation instead of a bad one? Most people will say: the special effects. Well, they are not totally wrong, since one of the greatest problems faced by such adaptations has always been poor effects that convinced no one of their reality. But movies aren’t only about effects. They also need good scripts. The first X-Men movie was successful because of its effects, but the second one consolidated the history of comics adaptations because of its script, which was made based on a fan’s idea. That proved for everyone that beautiful scenes, indecently well-paid actors and great special effects wouldn’t be enough to get the public’s attention. A good script made the difference. Lucky us, or the industry would make terrible movies after that and… OH, WAIT! It’s true, that happens until today… Well, we guess they’ll learn with time.
Whatever the style, it is a fact that superhero movies are here to stay. And, to tell you the truth, they are not so different from fantasy and science fiction movies; what changes here is only the subject. We have always had people with superpowers fighting for their beliefs. The only difference is that now these people first debuted on comics and, then, they started to appear on the big screen.
However, don’t let only our opinion dictate the rules here. We want to know your opinion. What do you think about it? Do you think that X-Men represents the category or do you think that their movies weren’t that great? Debate, discuss, share your opinion with us. Enjoy this space that is as yours as ours!

The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy written by a British writer, teacher and philologist, J.R.R. Tolkien. He created a fantastic world populated by magicians, dwarfs and their fights. It's about the battle between good and evil. There's a magic ring and the one who has it will change the power in their world (Middle Earth, as Tolkien called). Frodo has the ring and he is going to destroy it.
The book has been a best seller since it was published in 1954. The movie adaption has special effects with gimmicks only able because of current technology. In our country, the film had its debut in 2002, distributed by Warner Bros.
Comparing the book to the film, the book is better. Nowadays, people prefer to watch TV or a film to sit and read a book. A book has more information than a film; in a film, a lot of scenes are cut. Sometimes, there are some characters that are also cut. Anyway, with a film you can have a lot of fun, although with a book, you can learn and develop your imagination. It develops your mind and helps you to be creative.
