The Best Worst Villains

1. Freddy Krueger is a fictional character in the horror film series A Nightmare on Elm Street (in Brazil, A Hora do Pesadelo). Freddy is a child killer in Ohio. After being burned by his parents, he made a deal with supernatural beings and he started to attack teenagers in their nightmares, killing them in the real world.  He has the power to control people's nightmares and kill them during their sleep, so he has the nicknames of "Lord of Nightmares" and "Lord of Dreams".  The only way to defeat Freddy is grab him in the dreams and bring him to the waking world. The series has six films and one with a crossover with Jason Voorhees, from Friday the 13th series.

2. Hannibal Lecter is a character in a series of horror novels written by Thomas Harris and in the films adapted from the novels. Hannibal was introduced to the world in 1981, in the thriller novel Red Dragon as a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. The novel and its sequel, The Silence of the Lambs (1988), have other killers also as villains in the stories. In the third novel, Hannibal (1999), Lecter becomes the main character. His role as protagonist and anti-hero occurs in the fourth novel, Hannibal Rising (2006), which explores his childhood and development into a serial killer.

3. Joker is a psychotic with the appearance similar to a clown (green hair, white skin and red mouth, always smiling), who always challenges Batman, causing major damages in his life, for example, murdering his parents, according to some versions. His trademark and most dangerous weapon is the laughing gas, better known as "Joker Venom", which forces the victim to laugh hysterically and uncontrollably and ultimately provokes a fatal collapse.

4. Lord Voldemort is the archenemy of Harry Potter, who according to a prophecy has "the power to destroy the Dark Lord". Almost no witch or wizard dares to speak his name; instead referring to him as "You-Know-Who", "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" or "the Dark Lord". Voldemort divided his soul into seven parts, the Horcruxes, and the only way to kill him is by destroying them.

5. Sheldon James Plankton, or just Plankton is a character from SpongeBob SquarePants. Plankton is a small plankton and he is rather aggressive and has two antennae and one eye. He has a computer wife named Karen, who is actually a "W.I.F.E." (Wired Integrated Female Electroencephalograph). Karen apparently has a mind of her own, to the point of making fun of her husband. Plankton has spent a long period of time trying to destroy the Krusty Krab, a franchise owned and operated by Mr. Krabs. Plankton has a large family, containing more than 10,000 members of different forms of plankton, most of them are hillbillies, simple people from the countryside.

British Monarchy

Two award-winning films about the British monarchy. These films tell the history of the royal family in the
twentieth century and twenty-first century.
For those who like and study English and for
those who want a little of the history of British royalty, these two
films should not be missed!
Although the film 'The King's Speech "is more recent (2010), it is
worth watching it before the movie" The Queen "(2006) because
historically they complement themselves.
Both films were critical and commercial success and both have won
several awards including "The Oscar."
Be sure to watch these two movies!

The King's Speech
The King’s Speech is a story of overcoming. The stuttering problem the main character is a functional disorder because it is independent of an organic lesion and is more properly described as a combination of speech disorders (stuttering itself), communication (communication failure, even though fast) and behavior (the person becomes upset and embarrassed by the situation). Imagine this for a royal who need to speak? Is also the matter that the speech should convey credibility and hinders this process stuttering.
What unites the two films, besides the theme 'Royal Family', is overcoming a major problem. In the first, is the death of Princess Diana and the second is the fear of public speaking. Both are great to have the understanding that to have issues to be analyzed, problems to be overcome enough to be human, regardless of race, language or nation.

The Real King's Speech - King George VI - September 3, 1939

The Queen

The film The Queen is interesting because it gives us to know more about the history of the British Royal Family and the life of the Queen of England as well. The intervention of Tony Blair as prime minister was undoubtedly essential for the Queen's relationship with his people better, since the death of Princess Diana made an impact not only in English since she was very popular and beloved in general.

In this picture there is  real Queen Elizabeth shaking the hand of the actress who played in the film .

Soundtracks of our lives

Exceptionally clever, creative, audacious and talented: these are some adjectives attributed by film critics to Steven Spielberg, an American filmmaker.

Spielberg was born in 1946, in Cincinnati City (Ohio), but as a child he moved to California with his family.
In his early years, he faced discrimination due to having a Jewish background, and this event inspired him to make “Schindler’s List”, which was considered the best portrayal of what the Nazi terror was. As a consequence, he won his first Oscar with this film.

However, Spielberg’s first blockbuster was “Jaws” (1975), which was able to attract hundreds of people to the cinemas around the world and which made more than US$ 100 million.

In the 1970`s, he formed a special partnership with John Williams, a famous American composer, and it proved to be really successful, so much so that it lasts up to the present days.
Their works are so intertwined that it is impossible to think of any of Spielberg´s films without thinking of their soundtrack at the same time.

For example:
1) Think of “Superman”… We’ll give you 3 seconds to remember the soundtrack…
>> 1
>> 2
>> 3
It was very easy, wasn’t it?

2) What about “Indiana Jones” now?

Did you have any difficulties in remembering it?
Of course you didn’t, right?

So, let’s have a game…
