The Oscar goes to...

The Oscar is an award given to the best of cinema in various categories. Winners are chosen by a group of more than 5,800 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, that was founded in Los Angeles, United States. The award is divided into 24 categories, including the best picture, the best actor and actress, the best song and the best special effects. The award is held in an annual super production that brings together the biggest names in film art and attention of millions of viewers eager to watch the announcement of the best.

But have you ever had the feeling that “the best” of that year was not really the best? Do you know that movie that everyone talked about, liked and wanted to see again, but did not win the prize? And the opposite? Have you ever thought about that movie which was the winner but did not deserve to?

Brazilian Films have conquered the audience recently. In the last few years the quality and the types of production are very diversified. Comedies like “Se eu fosse você” and “A mulher invisível” seem to have pleased the audience in spite of being very similar to the Brazilian way of making soap operas, with the same cast for television and cinema. There are also films that are strong references of the national cinema like “Tropa de Elite” and “Cidade de Deus” that make us really proud.
In spite of this recent success, we are still questioning what is missing for us to compete with the international cinema and win the Oscar.

In your opinion, which film deserved to win the desired s
tatue, but was not awarded?
