A “Remake” is the name used for films based on movies that have already been made. Sometimes, when film makers produce remakes, they change the name of characters, the title of the film and where the movie is set. Also, they may change the story a little by including modern things.
• The First remake in History...
...is The Great Train Robbery. The film was produced in 1903 and is considered the first western movie. “The Great Train Robbery” was very important for the film industry. The remake was made one year later.
Directed, Produced and Editing by:Edwin S. Porter
Here are some examples of remakes:
THE BIRDCAGE (1996)
KARATE KID (2010)
The remake of this film is an initiative of actor Will Smith, who is the director too. The film is set in today's culture and technology to tell the story of a guy who moves with his mother to another country, because she will work in a company there. Without the opportunity to choose, he is forced to study in another culture and language, make new friends etc.
Here is an example of a prequel:
The first movie is a French film based on a book called “La Cage aux Folles” from 1978.
The original story is based on the life of two gay men who live in Saint Tropez. When their son announces he is getting married with a girl from a traditional family, they try to conceal their lifestyle and the fact own transvestite club when they son’s fiancée came for dinner with her parents.
The American version from 1996 tells almost the same story but it stars Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as the middle-aged gay couple living in South Beach and Nathan Lane is the principal attraction of their club The Birdcage.
The original film was nominated to an Oscar Award for best direction, best adapted script, best costume design and won a Golden Globe for best foreigner film.
The remake was nominated for the Oscar of Best art direction-Set Decoration and won the American Comedy Award, Blockbuster Entertainment Award, Casting Society American Award, and was nominated to three Golden Globes (best motions picture, best actor to Nathan Lane), two MTV Movie Awards and a lot of others awards. That proves that a remake can be as good as the original.
The story in the remake is better because the context pictures the chock between cultures, points of view, languages etc. It is connected to the difficulties that a foreigner has to go through when leaving his country to live in another country, but at the same time it shows us that we can change our lives. At the same time, the remake teaches a lesson about overcoming our difficulties.
The remake has a lot of funny scenes between the actor Jackie Chan and Will Smith’s son.
The best scene is when he first starts to teach the boy how to fight martial arts.

We recommend the film. It’s for all ages. And it can be seen at any time. Each moment you see you will have a different impression! Do you want action and comedy in the same story?
So watch that!

OCEAN’S ELEVEN (2001)
The first Ocean’s Eleven is very cool because it was centered on a series of Las Vegas casino robberies. That film was directed by Lewis Milestone and starred five actors that formed the group of criminals: Peter Lawford, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin,Sammy Davis, Jr., and Joey Bishop.
The remake of Ocean’s eleven was filmed in 2001 and was a great success in the USA. It starred Geroge Clooney and Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia and Matt Damon.
There are differences between both movies. In the first movie, eleven men elaborate a plan to rob five casinos at the same time on New Year's Eve. On the other hand, in the second film only three casinos are to be robbed during one night at the same time that there is a very important wrestling competition.
The first film has the best actors but the story didn’t work well.

A remake or a prequel? What's the difference?
A prequel is not exactly a remake. It's a film that supplements a previously completed one. The prequel forms part of the "back-story" for the original film.
Here is an example of a prequel:
The Exorcist – 1973
The Exorcist is a very famous American film. The Exorcist original film was released in 1973 and was a horror film based on the real story of an exorcism case of Robbie Mannheim, an American boy.
